In the heart of Main Street USA at Disneyland Park in Paris you’ll find Walt’s – An American Restaurant. Here you can dine amongst endless backdrops of the finest moments in Walt’s world where rooms are themed to reflect the 6 lands within the Disneyland Park. From Fantasyland, which offers a gothic style room with concept art pieces featuring Sleeping Beauty and Pinocchio, to Adventureland which features art works and themes from Pirates of The Caribbean, there is plenty to see. Other rooms feature themes from Discoveryland, the Disneyland Hotel, Grand Canyon and Frontierland.
I hadn’t come across Walt’s restaurant prior to this visit; it had never crossed my radar and I reckon that it was due to it’s location. Having previously visited the parks, especially the main Disneyland Park, we typically make a bee-line for rides rather than restaurant’s and so that initial first glance of Main Street is simply drawn to the far end where the castle is. The restaurant is located at the top end of Main Street by the Liberty Arcade and so it is quite easily missed if you are one to head straight for the castle without stopping.

We were fortunate to land a midday reservation on our last day in the parks; the room which we dined in was the Adventureland Room which featured soft touches of artwork from Pirates of the Caribbean. Our table, whilst wasn’t a direct window seat had views across Mainstreet which was lovely to see; it showed a different view of the street up high rather than at ground level, which offered great photo opportunities.

The pricing for Walt’s main menu starts at 55euros which includes a starter, main course and a dessert. Drinks are an additional cost. This is a higher priced dining experience due to it’s history and popularity with the Disney superfans as well as it being located in the heart of the main theme park.
For value of money I’d say that it was reasonably priced considering you receive three courses and you are surrounded by Walt’s favourite décor. If there is a large group of you this may be a little bit of a turn off due to it’s higher price but I would highly recommend it for those wanting to experience a lightly themed Disney restaurant without the disturbance of characters and loud music, it offers a calmer atmosphere with a sophisticated touch.

For starters there are a couple of choices including sweet corn soup, chicken pot pie, Waldorf salad or a fruit slaw. Our party each had either a chicken pot pie or sweetcorn soup for starter. I had the chicken pot pie and can say that it was probably my favourite starter I have ever had. I wished that it was offered as a main course and slightly larger because it was so tasty. The mickey shaped pie crust was a lovely touch and the pie itself was flavourful and not too filling. A friend of mine had the sweetcorn soup and also highly recommended it.

We also loved that the china plates and cups had that small touch of Disney in them with a little Mickey waiter printed on them! The little biscuits that come with hot drinks are also Disney themed

For main courses there’s a number of choices such as Chili Con Carne, Roast Chicken Breast, Mac & Cheese , Cajun-Spiced Arctic Char or Thelma Potato. I went for the roast chicken breast which came with mashed sweet potato and asparagus. On first glance you might think that the choices are quite limited, which in reality they are considering the price of the restaurant, however I do think there’s is enough choice there for those with different tastes for food.
The chicken was really tasty and full of flavour and the mashed sweet potato was a nice addition. The only thing I would say is that I personally like to drown my chicken in gravy so I could have done with some more but what was on offer was still great. I wasn’t a huge fan of the asparagus but this is just my personal preference when it comes to veggies, I’m more of a root veg lover such as parsnips or potatoes!

For dessert, again with the range of offerings you can choose either from a lemon meringue pie, pineapple upside down cake, flower street Sundae, warm chocolate chip cookie or a caramelised millefeuille.
I went for the lemon meringue pie and wasn’t disappointed. Again with the subtle Disney touches of the added Mickey meringue on the top, it was a lovely dessert with lots of flavour and not too overpowering with lemon; it was just enough and didn’t leave me too full! The rest of our party had the warm chocolate chip cookie which was more like a cookie dough base and wasn’t overly memorable but still tasty.

I really did enjoy the food here and thought the overall atmosphere was classy and peaceful. I think the only thing I would say as a negative is that for the price that you pay and for the level of ‘fanciness’ of the restaurant, it’s not quite up to parr as the other restaurants we had visited in the parks on our most recent trip. Whilst the theming is nice and offers something a little bit different, I personally expected more in terms of the food choices for what you pay for. There’s a few choices but nothing unique or anything to take away and say that it is a staple dish for the restaurant.
I think what wins me over with this restaurant mostly is the views from the dining areas. The view down Mainstreet isn’t one you would get unless you went to the restaurant so that is a plus. And yes, the day we went was of course a rainy day so the ponchos were in full swing!

Overall I’d recommend the restaurant if you’re into a finer dining experience with small numbers of people in the dining areas and subtle touches of Disney; if you are however after something with a little more oomph behind it and a wider range of meal choices then I would suggest PYM Kitchen or Plaza Gardens.
